She would say, "I don't want to go home; I watch all my favorite shows here without interruption, and my son takes me on long drives on the weekends!"
The man would reply, "I feel like punya (good karma) is a visit to heaven on earth; I don't have any responsibilities here!" Both did agree, though, that caring children are a true blessing for elderly parents.
I have portrayed here an Indian diaspora family.
"Missing etiquette such as 'thank you, sorry, please, excuse me' will result in a 25 cent fine."
The children of the diaspora take what they learn in school and apply it to their grandparents!
Grandparents understand that these are sincere expressions of heartfelt emotions meant to be shared during few significant life events. Both sides are foreigners to each other! Actually, the majority of expressions occur through nonverbal clues like appreciation, respect, love, or returning favors in countless manners and gestures.
Indian culture and value system is based on gratitude and respect as the corner stones of a contented life. Gratitude and respect is expressed to various elements and stars which sustain life and so my next painting Foreigners Everywhere 4 is going to be based on this theme.
