Foreigners Everywhere - The Old Couple

My first international trip was to Canada in 2006 and around this time of the year. Spring is memorable in the West! A riot of color explodes after a few months of gray lifeless winter. I was in awe of the beauty of nature, the greenery and dandelions as far as my eyes go in my everyday strolls, the streets adorned with cherry blossom laden trees and then visits to Niagara falls!

The Old Couple

While I was soaking in the mesmerizing beauty of Niagara falls this couple just arrived on the scene and the man told his wife, 'Honey, let's get a picture in front of the falls'! What caught my attention was the pose for the picture. I have witnessed young couples in India striking a variety of poses for photos. However, I am staring at a couple who may be in their late seventies who have arrived alone to the tourist destination and are posing so lovingly for a photo!

In those days when the influence of internet and exposure to world culture was very basic and I had seen only the temple going old couples in India, this was an eye opener! I should do an Indian old couple right? But honestly in some parts of the country and in some class of the society they have changed a lot since then.

I am gradually getting interested more in old couples and paying attention to life at a later stage. This couple at Niagara falls happens to be a forever memory for me. Certain things delight me, never go unnoticed if I have not experienced and I feel that is worth a painting. The old couple might be dead by now but someone has painted them because the essence of the moment stayed as a sweet memory for the artist! Would you like to see the world through me?
